Obituary for Virginia M. Hicks
VIRGINIA MAE JONES HICKS, the fourth child born to Jefferson J. and Virginia Jones in Dinwiddie County, VA entered this life on March 19, 1942. She departed this life on Friday, May 6, 2011 at her home in Blackstone, VA.
She was educated in the Dinwiddie Public Schools. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age at Bloomfield Baptist Church. She later joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Blackstone, VA.
Virginia worked at Burkeville Veneer Plant in Burkeville, VA until she retired. She loved her family and community. She was always willing to give a helping hand to others. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to all. She enjoyed cooking, wrestling and playing bingo.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patsy Evans; and a brother, Jervis Jones, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving and devoted husband, Samuel L. Hicks; her eldest son, Conway Lewis (Ruth) of Baltimore, MD, Margaret Renee Oulds (Christopher), Elroy (Bopp) Lewis, Veronica Woodley (Boo-Boo) all of Blackstone, VA and Anissa Crawley (Calvin) of Kenbridge, VA; one brother, Albert Jones of Richmond, VA; one aunt, Elizabeth Vaughan; two brothers-in-law, William Evans and Landus Hicks, Sr.; grandchildren, Ahmad Lewis, Akeia Woodley, Jessica Knox, Akeem Williams, Juanita Williams, Shaniqua Carter, Keon Woodley, Karina Lewis, Zashia Lewis, Amesia Crawley, Kaleiah Lewis, NaKaya Crawley and Patrick Collins; great grandchildren, Destiny Woodley, Ja’Kayla Washington, and Ahmad Lewis, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Special friends, Earl Jones, Lou Thomas, Richard Wilson, Mary Lou Goode; special nieces, Vera Dance and Arlene Edmonds; and the entire West End Community.
Funeral Services Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
