Obituary for Viola Lucille Graves
VIOLA LUCILLE GRAVES was born on August 6, 1926 to Ida and William Wilson, Sr. She quietly departed this life on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at 2:30 a.m. at Community Memorial HealthCenter in South Hill, VA.
Viola was educated in the Nottoway County schools before moving to Washington, DC. In Washington she met Eugene M. Graves of Danville, VA and they were married on October 27, 1976.
After their retirement, they moved to Blackstone, VA where she enjoyed working in the church on the Usher Board and the Women’s Auxiliary Committee. One of her greatest joys was the caring of many, many children and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Viola and neighbors saw the need to start a Neighborhood Watch in her community.
Viola leaves to mourn: her husband, Eugene Graves of Blackstone, VA; two sisters, Flornia Jean Walker of Washington, DC and Helen Graham of Bowie, MD; two children and three step-children, Oscar M. Wilson, Sr. (Gloria Jean-wife), Diane Thomas (George Allen-husband), Eugene (Larry) Graves, Jr., Laurie Sinclair, and Celestine Forney (Tina); ten grandchildren, Oscar M. Wilson, Jr. (London– wife), Michael T. Thomas (Deborah-wife), Stephanie Wilson, Arkriba Brown, Aquila Brown, Sommer Sinclair, Terrance Sinclair, Ervin Forney, Carlos and Charlene Graves; six great grandchildren; one great, great grandson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Services Friday, August 1, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone, VA with interment in the church cemetery.
