Obituary for Vernon Lee Harris
Vernon Lee Harris, son of the late Nelcie Eanes and Bill Thomas was born July 21, 1949 in New York. At an early age his grandparents, the late Phil and Lucy Harris of Rice, VA found it in their hearts to take him into their home and raise him as their own.
 He started his early education in the Amelia County School System (Russell Grove High) and graduated from Dunbar High School, Baltimore, MD with the Class of 1967.
 He served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1970. After serving in the military, he was employed by Sparrow’s Point and Western Electric, he retired from Clendenin Brothers Metal, all in Baltimore, MD. Vernon was loved by many of his neighbors.
 He was predeceased by one son, but leaves to treasure his memories: a devoted long time friend Mollie Jones (who was with him till the end) of Burkeville, VA; Punkie (Walmart) and Stanley both of Baltimore, MD; sister Margarett Shealey (Benjamin) of New York; brother John Thomas (Lisa); uncle, Lewis Harris (Jesse); four nieces; one nephew; a host of cousins, five devoted Teedy (Carolyn), Gloria (Spoon), Brenda (Bill), all of Baltimore, MD, Jesse Jr. (Alana) of Ft. Washington, MD and Hattie Mae of Rice, VA; four young men he called his sons Kevin Sr., Sherman Sr.,. Detrick Sr and Kevin Jr. (KJ); seven grands he claimed as his own Diamond, Destiny, Desiree (Dusty), Detrick, Derrick, Two and Three of Burkeville, VA; Urseille of Rice who called him son; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, April 16, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Dominion Worship Center, Crewe with interment to follow in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Rice, VA.
