Vernell Bland Kirby entered peacefully into her eternal rest on Monday, June 16, 2025. She was born on July 18, 1953 to the late Melvin and Gladys Bland of Amelia.
She was baptized and joined the Promise Land Baptist Church at an early age where she attended faithfully. When she united in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Roy Kirby, after which they relocated to Nottoway County, VA where she joined Nation of Islam.
Vernell was educated in Amelia County Schools and graduated with the class of 1972. She attended Crewe Vocational School, taking clerical and other classes.
Vernell loved arts and crafts, fishing, gardening and selling at the Crewe Flea Market. She was employed at numerous jobs including Senior Citizens Sites, food services at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Blackstone, Piedmont Geriatric Hospital and VCBR.
Vernell was preceded in death by two step-brothers, Deforris Robinson and Joseph L. Branch; a step-son Roy Saunders.
Vernell leaves to cherish and remember her lively spirit, her husband of 52 years, who she affectionally called “Honey” Roy; three sons, Leonard, Shareef and Omar; step-son, Karon Rowe; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; brothers Graham (Susie) and Manna Bland; devoted sister, Marie (Perry) Wingo; a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends; devoted friends Ola Jones, Mary Wright, Eunice Lee, Ida Bowler and Karen Williams.
