Tommy Joe Hardy entered into eternal rest on July 23, 2023 at his home. Tommy Joe was born on April 13, 1944 to Margaret Hurt Fields and Walter R. Douglas.
Tommy Joe joined Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in Nottoway County.
After high school he joined the U.S. Army and was Honorably discharged in July 1970. He was stationed in Frankfort, KY. After leaving the U.S. Army he returned to Blackstone, VA working at Levi Strauss, Pepsi Cola Plant, and Fort Pickett as a laborer. He retired from Fort Pickett after twenty years.
In January 1962, Tommy Joe married Virginia Green and to this union two children were born Freda and Tommy (Jerry).
He enjoyed fishing, NFL football, westerns, wrestling and playing the lottery. He truly enjoyed life and always had a smile on his face.
Tommy Joe was predeceased by his wife Virginia (Jenny) and son Tommy (Jerry) He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter Freda Hardy of Blackstone, VA; two grandchildren Deanna (Ephraim) of Blackstone, VA and Jerome Hardy of Washington DC; nine great grandchildren TyJha Hardy, TreAnna Rouse, TyJec Rouse, Ephraim Stokes Jr., De’Naiah Hardy, Yashrell Mcdemon, De’laiah Hardy, Delonte Hardy and De’mariin Hardy; one sister Lizzie Stokes; one brother John Hardy of Blackstone, VA; one uncle Floyd Hardy (Barbara) of New York, NY; two aunts Naomi Hardy of Long Island, NY and Shirley Hardy of Blackstone, VA; two brothers-in-law, Henry Green (Rose) of Norfolk, VA and Charlie Campbell of Clinton MD; four sisters-in-law, Thelma Purcell of Baltimore, MD, Annie Jones of Blackstone, VA, Joyce Green of Washington, DC and Cordelia Green of Camp Springs, MD; and a host of other family and friends.
