Obituary for Tom J. Cousins
August 27, 1930 TOM JUNIUS COUSINS “Al” was born to the late Tom and Cambie Watson Cousins. He attended school in Nottoway County.
Al was a self taught landscaper. He possessed a special talent for trimming hedges and mowing lawns. He worked various odd jobs in the Crewe community. He worked as part of the night cleaning crew at Southside Electric Cooperative in Crewe, VA. He was also very well known as the Sexton at Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church for over twenty-six years where he retired when his health began to fail.
“Al” as he was affectionately known will be greatly missed. He enjoyed people, politics, and his family. He lived a simple life. He was a little man with a big heart and a big smile. Though he had no wife or children, he considered his nieces and nephews as his children. Though he loved us all he cherished his relationship with his nephew, Samuel Fowlkes and his niece, Darlene King. He had a soft spot in his heart for his sisters Leola and Margaret “Earsell”.
Al became a resident of Cherry Tree Rest Home approximately three years ago. It was during his stay that he professed his faith in God. Shortly thereafter, he became ill. He has had a lengthy hospitalization. His illness has taken him from labor to reward. Al departed this life on October 6, 2008 at The Laurels of Willow Creek in Midlothian, VA.
Al had one brother to precede him in death, Fernanda Cousins. Most recently his sister, Louise Chapman, only two days after his death has gone to be with her heavenly Father. He leaves to cherish his memory: his brother Clarence Cousins (Peggy), James Chapman (brother-in-law), his sisters, Leola Epes (Willie) and Nancy King, all of Crewe, VA; Laura Bailey and Theresa Scott of Baltimore, MD; Elsie Jennings of Bridgeport, CT; Margaret Fowlkes (Waverly) of Alexandria, VA; a devoted nephew/niece Junious Hasan (Wanda) of Chesterfield, VA; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; Cherry Tree Rest Home Family and Pryor Memorial Presbyterian Church family.
Funeral Services Friday, October 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, Crewe, VA with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone, Va.
W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
