Obituary for Thomas Lewis Fitzgerald
Thomas L. Fitzgerald entered into eternal rest in his home in
Brooklyn, NY on Sunday, September 27, 2020. He was born on April
14, 1927 in Crewe, Virginia to the late Anna Walker-Fitzgerald and
Solomon Fitzgerald. He was the youngest of six siblings; Lillie
(Hopkins), Carrie (Thomas), Robert, Russell, David, and Elnora
(Knight) who all preceded him in death. Thomas had one son, Barry
T. Fitzgerald, who also preceded him in death.
He accepted Jesus as his Lord and savior at an early age, and
joined Union Baptist Church in Crewe, Virginia. He was educated in
the Nottaway County School System. He later moved to New York
to live with his sister, Carrie, and was drafted into the United States
Army in 1952. He returned home after an honorable discharge to
New York, and began working in the Garment District until he
retired in 1992.
Thomas enjoyed going to various casinos with his son and
grandson. He also looked forward to his yearly family reunion
held in Virginia. He was known for being generous and kindhearted.
He always sent gifts to loved-ones and friends; especially
on birthdays.
He leaves to mourn his death his loving and caring grandson,
Barry (Aleita); granddaughter, Michelle; daughter-in-law, Ethel;
great-grandchildren, Jacob; Hudson and Nasia Stroud; and a greatgreat-
grandchildren, Carter, Collin, Christian and Cory Streeter; and
a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves cherished and
devoted friends that were like family to him, Dorothy and Doreen
Howard (NY), Richard Mosley (NY) and his down-home Virginia
family friends, Martha Fowlkes-Bryant, Dora Jennings and Lois
Harris.
Graveside Services Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at 1pm at Walker Family Cemetery, Crewe.
