Obituary for Thomas E. Woodley, Sr.
Thomas Edward Woodley, Sr. was granted his wings on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 in Blackstone, VA. He was born on March 7, 1937 to the late Luben and Frances Woodley in Amelia County.
At an early age he was baptized and gave his life to Christ at Branches Run Baptist Church in Amelia, VA. He retired from Northern Southern Railroad after twenty-five years of service.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Bruce and Rodney Woodley. He leaves to cherish his precious memories, a devoted wife of sixty-one years, Patsy Edmonds Woodley; three daughters, Felicia Woodley of Blackstone, VA, Sheila Crawley (James) of Mattoca, VA and Nancy Davis (Calvin) of Blackstone; three sons, Thomas Woodley Jr. (Sharon Davis) of Victoria, VA, Earl Woodley (Sandra) of Blackstone, VA and Melvin Woodley (Carolyn Ghee) of Kenbridge, VA; godson, Bobby Lewis of Amelia, VA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; brother, Frank Woodley (Rosa) of Amelia, VA; two sisters-in-law, Margie Mitchell of Blackstone, VA and Virginia Woodley of Petersburg, VA; two brothers-in-law, Robert Edmonds (Lillie Mae) of Blackstone, VA and Clinton Hawkes, Sr of Blackstone, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sometimes its hard to understand
why certain things must be
But there is a reason for it all
beyond our power to see.
It’s then that God’s sweet promise
shines as a heavenly ray
And gives us hope, faith,
and courage to light the way.
