Obituary for Thomas E. Anderson
THOMAS EDWARD ANDERSON (affectionately known as Tate) departed this life at his residence in Baltimore, MD on Monday, November 28, 2011. He was born in Dinwiddie County, VA on April 8, 1920, the youngest son of the late Joshua and Geneva (Jennie) Anderson. Preceding him in death were his two eldest brothers Willie Lee Anderson and Junious Anderson.
At an early age, he confessed Christ and was baptized at Bircherd Hill Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, VA. Thomas attended public schools in Nottoway County.
He was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army Military Police Unit as a jeep patrol driver in Tucson, AZ from August 24, 1942 until he was Honorably Discharged on January 30, 1946.
He was married to Eunice Jefferson and to this union one son was born, Franklin Delano Anderson.
At the closing of Fort Picket, VA he moved to Baltimore, MD where he was employed at Ashley Chevrolet. He was also employed as a mechanic at Edmondson Village Oldsmobile Dealership from which he retired.
On March 17, 1962, Thomas married Emma Evans, she fondly called him “My Tommy”.
He is survived by his loving and very devoted wife of forty-nine years Emma; his devoted son Franklin of Sleepy Hallow, NY; three sisters Thelma A. Johnson, Charity A. Townes, both of Blackstone, VA and Norma J. Carter of Baltimore, MD; one aunt, Julia White of Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in-law, Thelma Evans of Blackstone, VA and Gladys Evans of Richmond, VA; two brothers-in-law Chester Evans (Barbara) and William Evans, both of Richmond, VA; numerous devoted nieces, nephews and a special nephew Melvin Evans (Gladys) of Chesapeake, VA; and a host of friends and neighbors who loved him and will miss him dearly.
Funeral Services Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
