Obituary for Thomas Douglas Johnson
Thomas Douglas “Doug” Johnson was born, June 11, 1941 in Chesterfield, Virginia. He was the first child born to the late Mary Hannah Johnson Harris. Doug departed this life on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the age of 73. He was preceded in death by three children; daughter, Janice Johnson Harris and sons, Daniel Johnson, Sr. and Kenneth Johnson.
Doug was educated in the Chesterfield County Public School System. He was baptized at an early age and joined the Tabernacle Baptist Church, Chesterfield, Virginia where he served in the Building and Grounds Ministry and the Diaconate Ministry.
Doug was employed as an over the road truck driver for 41 years; working for Safeway, QuickWay, VA Hauling Co., and retired from Consolidated Freight Company, Richmond, Virginia.
Doug was an avid carpenter, electrician, and all-around handy man who was willing to help anyone needing his assistance; also offering his assistance and support at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Doug was joined in holy matrimony to Martha Giles Johnson on April 16, 1964. They celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past April. This union completed a family of four children.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Martha G. Johnson; sons, Eugene Johnson (Theresa) of Orlando, FL, Donald Studevant of Richmond, VA; daughters, Gloria Studevant of Richmond, VA and Virginia Falck (Paul) of Texas; daughter-in-law, Lisa D. Johnson; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; nine brothers, Glenn Harris (Brenda) of El Paso, TX, Alfrey Harris (Mary) of Dinwiddie, VA, Thomas Jefferson, Jr. (Sadie), Lorenzo Jefferson, Alphonso Jefferson, Maurice Jefferson (Velma), Clifton Jefferson, Sr. (Shirley) of Amelia, VA, Elton Jefferson, Sr. of Chesterfield, VA, Gilbert Jefferson, Sr. of Augusta, GA; four sisters, Attavan Williams (Ralph), Doris Williams, Roxanne Jordan, and Antoinette Williams (Michael) of Chesterfield, VA; one aunt, Bessie Pollard; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. from Tabernacle Baptist Church, Winterpock (Chesterfield) with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
