Obituary for Thomas McKinley Royall, Jr.
Thomas McKinley Royall Jr. aka Bubba, departed this life on March 4, 2021, at Laurels of Bon Air, Midlothian, VA after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Thomas O. Royall Sr and Ruth Pitchford Royall; sisters, Daisy Nadine Royall, Viola C. Reed, and a brother, Reverend Ralph C. Royal.

Thomas attended school at Jetersville School and Russell Grove High School. He then went on to Crewe Skill Center, Crewe, VA where he received his certificate as a mechanic. Thomas was employed as a mechanic in Crewe, Richmond and surrounding areas. Tinkering with cars was his all time favorite. His favorite saying was “ I can fix them when they break down and start them when they won’t even budge”. On any given day you could find him at Chesterfield Auto and Junk Yard pulling parts for the customers until he became ill.

Thomas worked in the logging business, driving the 18 wheelers pulling logs. He loved the sound of the muffler “talking” and even as he aged, he would always listen to the trucks engine when they passed by and admiring the chrome on the wheels.

He loved to draw and his cartoon characters could be found even his cars. Bubba was loyal to his family and remembered all of our birthdays by sending us a silver coin or a card.

Thomas is survived by a son, Leon Dickerson; daughter, Pamela Royall Clarke; three sisters, Marcia V. Anderson of Burkeville, VA, Gladys E. Robinson (George) and Reverend Myrtle L. Dobson (Tracy) of Newport News, VA; two brothers, John W. Royall, and Nelson R. Royall (Irma) of Amelia, VA; sister-n-law, Jerelene B. Royal; grandchildren, Shacola, Donta, Alisa, April, Charmo’nique, Chaquetta, Tanganek, Kristian, Leon and Dion; 36 great grandchildren; devoted nephews, William & Wilbert Anderson, and Robert Royall; devoted nieces, Michelle Davis, and Tawanna Robinson; one Uncle, Phil Pitchford and one aunt, Gladys Taylor, both of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.
A special thank you to his brother, John W. Royall who prepared his favorite foods while he was in Amelia nursing home, and the staff of The Laurels of Bon Air for the care given to him the last nine months.
