Obituary for Theresa A. Williams
God in his infinite wisdom called our beloved Theresa Ann Hawkes Williams to eternal rest on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at her home in Baltimore, MD.

Theresa, who was affectionately known as “Boo-Boo” to her loved ones, was born on May 30, 1948 in Blackstone, VA to the late Webster Davis and Annie Ester Hawkes. She joined Poplar Lawn Baptist Church at an early age where she was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior.

Theresa graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in Blackstone, VA in 1966. She later joined the Luther H. Foster Alumni Association. Upon graduating, Theresa attended Norfolk State University for a year before leaving to move to Williamsburg, VA. During this time, she welcomed a beautiful bouncing baby boy, Shawn.

While living in Williamsburg, Theresa worked the grill at the infamous Franklin House run by her uncle Leon Hobbs and aunt Erma Hobbs and later worked as a tour guide in Colonial Williamsburg. It was in Williamsburg that she met her future husband, Ralph Williams. After getting married in a beautiful ceremony in Amelia, VA Theresa and Ralph moved to Baltimore, MD where they expanded their family with their baby girl, Tia Ann.

She also continued to serve God as she worshiped with Ralph at his home church, Huber Memorial Church in Baltimore, MD with presiding Pastor PM Smith.

Theresa worked as an Avon consultant for 25 years before retiring in 2010. She also worked as a counselor helping families with children with disabilities at Families Involved Together from 1998-2000. Through all of her jobs throughout the years the one central theme was her service to others. She lived to give – whether it be a gift from her Avon product line, a big hug, or a belly laugh with her sharp humor.

Theresa loved to talk on the phone. She and her sisters would spend hours laughing and talking on the phone. She would also use the phone to reach far and wide to her loved ones to give the best advice whether you asked for it or not. She always kept it real but did it with love. When she wasn’t on the phone or selling Avon, you could find her at Shawn’s football games cheering him on and later continued that tradition with her grandsons.

Theresa also helped write Hawkes Christian Soldiers, which became the family song that is proudly sung at the end of every family reunion.
Theresa was preceded in death by her son Shawn Ernie Hawkes, Sr., sister Yvonne Hawkes, nephew Alton Hawkes Jr., and brother-in-law Leroy Hawkes.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 42 years, Ralph Williams, her loving daughter Tia Williams (Dante), one devoted granddaughter Tierra Hawkes, grandsons, Shawn Hawkes Jr, Sherrod Hawkes, Shemar Hawkes, Tyree Williams Koger, Treyvon Williams, Dante Williams and Damar’e Williams and five great grandchildren all of Baltimore, MD; brothers, Kermit Hawkes, Sr., (Lucy), Alton Hawkes, Sr., and Darrell Hawkes (Lisa), sisters Debbie Hawkes-Lee (James) and Charlene Johnson (Lewis); one sister-in-law Patricia Williams, two aunts Alice Hawkes and Ethel Hobbs, one devoted cousin Wanda Moore who was more like a sister, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Viewing Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 11 to 7PM.

Funeral Services Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 11AM at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone. interment church cemetery.
