Obituary for Theodore Roosevelt Fields, Jr.

Theodore Roosevelt Fields Jr., 77 of Glen Allen, Virginia died suddenly at his home. Theodore was born July 1, 1945 in Washington D.C. to Theodore Roosevelt Fields Sr. and his mother Alvie.


Theodore Fields attended the Dunbar High School in Washington D.C. where he was Senior Class President, Hi-Y Club President, Varsity Basketball Captain 62, 63, 64, and elected Most Popular Graduate. After graduating he attended The University of San-Diego in California. Theodore led the Toreros basketball team into the 1966 NCAA Western Regionals. Theodore became the president of the University of San Diego Alumni Association. In addition, Theodore was a member of The Boards of Directors of the NAACP and partner of the first black owned financial institute in the County of San Diego.

On September 4, 2021 Theodore married the love of his life, Darlene Griffin.


Theodore was employed at Family Life Services Glen Allen, Virginia where he served for 8 years.

Theodore joined The New Birth Fellowship Ministries where he served as Deacon. Theodore loved the Lord and walked his walk faithfully. Ted loved excursions, swimming, football, basketball, and helping those in need. His love for boxing was extraordinary, he was the President of Kronk Boxing Gym where he had the opportunity to work with boxing legends Muhammad Ali, Tommy Hitman Hearns, Evander Holyfield, and also helped prepare Actor Wesley Snipes for a few movies. Theodore has traveled the world!


Theodore is survived by his wife, Darlene Griffin Fields of Glen Allen, VA; daughters, Antoinette Fields of Washington, DC and Stephanie Robinson of Amelia, VA; son, Rodney Owens of Amelia, VA; granddaughter, Ranae Owens of Amelia, VA; sister-in-law, Cynthia Griffin of Amelia, VA; brother-in-law, Derek Griffin (Denise) of Chesterfield, VA; nieces and nephews, Deidre Griffin, Robert Mills, Derek Jr, Griffin, DeAndra Griffin , Donovan Griffin and Cru Griffin


Viewing: Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Michael W. Hawkes Funeral Home from 2pm to 7pm.


Funeral: Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 1pm at Amelia Baptist Church, Amelia, VA

Interment: Little Union Baptist Church, Amelia, VA
