Obituary for Thelma A. Johnson
Thelma Louise Anderson Johnson (affectionately known as Pudding) was born on January 15, 1928 in Dinwiddie, VA.  Thelma departed this life suddenly on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at her residence in Blackstone, VA. She was the eldest daughter of the late Joshua and Geneva (Jennie) Anderson.  Preceding her in death were her three eldest brothers, Willie Lee, Junious, and Thomas Edward Anderson who passed on November 28, 2011 and was eulogized on last Saturday, December 3, 2011.
At an early age, she confessed Christ and was baptized at Bircherd Hill Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, VA.  Thelma attended public schools in Nottoway County, VA graduating from Nottoway Training School with the Class of 1946.
After graduating from high school she married Larice Edward Johnson, who preceded her in death, and to this union three children were born, Ronald Larice, Patricia Louise and Beverly Ann.
Thelma was employed at Piedmont Sanitarium  and worked there for many years until she decided to return to school and further her education in the nursing field.  She attended Southside Community  School of Nursing  and graduated as a LPN, after graduating she went to work for Central State Hospital in Petersburg, VA.  She was employed there for years.  Thelma later transferred to Nottoway Correctional Center in Burkeville, VA where she retired.  Following retirement from Nottoway Correctional Center she went to work at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Blackstone, VA for a number of years.
To cherish her memory, Thelma leaves three devoted children Ronald Johnson (Deborah) of Blackstone, VA, Patricia Greenhill (Larry) of Clinton, MD and  Beverly Clay (Floyd) of Blackstone, VA; six grandchildren, Angela Thomas of Richmond, VA, Tony Johnson (Celina) of Pasadena, CA, Charna Brooks, (Joseph) of Waldorf, MD, Reginald Johnson of Blackstone, VA, Tia Moorefield of Pasadena, CA, and Rhondye Johnson, of Blackstone, VA; 11 great grandchildren; one, great-great grandchild; two sisters, Charity Townes of Blackstone, VA and Norma J. Carter of Baltimore, MD; one aunt, Julia White of Baltimore, MD; one sister-in-law, Emma Anderson of Baltimore, MD; numerous nieces and nephews, two devoted nieces, Gracie Roberta Ruffin of Richmond, VA, and Lucy Bland of Petersburg, VA, numerous cousins, two devoted, Costella Malone of Blackstone, VA and Audrey Word of Cleveland, OH; a godchild, LaWanda Epes of Mannboro, VA; a host of friends, four devoted, Hazel White, Nannie Stokes, Priscilla Moore, Gladys Young, and Hattie McDuffie of Blackstone, VA, and many many devoted friends and neighbors, one devoted neighbor, John Jefferson, who will miss her dearly.
Funeral Services Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Spring Hill Baptist Church, Blackstone with interment in the church cemetery.
