Obituary for Thaddeus H Fowlkes
Thaddeus Hurdle Fowlkes, son of the late Olivia and Howard Fowlkes was born June 4, 1932 in Nottoway County.  He was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.  He departed his life on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at his home.
Thaddeus was educated in Nottoway County public schools, and was employed by the Burkeville Veneer for a number of years.  He later was employed with Westvaco, formerly Weyerhaeuser Company, from which he retired after 37 1/2  years.  At an early age he was baptized and became a member of the First Nottoway Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee for many years.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to Hazel White.  They were blessed in this union with three children, one preceded him in death, Viola Fowlkes Jackson.
Thaddeus was known for his love for gardening, and his compassion to help his friends and family.  He worked hard at whatever he attempted, just to see the fruit of his labor.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory:  his loving and devoted wife Hazel; two daughters, Carolyn Clay of Blackstone, VA and Lily Boxley of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren, Shimeeka Clay, Tami Martin, Toni Boxley, Deneen Dowtin and Ashley Boxley; nine great grandchildren, Kevin and Vinesha Stokes, Deon Clay of Rice, VA, Veronica Jackson of Richmond, VA, Brianna, Micala, Kyri Martin of Sandston, VA, DeAsia, Deonna, and DaQuan Dowtin of Blackstone, VA; one sister-in-law, Bessie White of Blackstone, VA; two sons-in-law, Alvin Clay and William Jackson of Blackstone, VA; one brother, Frederick Fowlkes of Richmond, VA; one sister, Queen Wainwright of Philadelphia, PA; four devoted friends, Ralph Johnson, Ed Taylor, Louis Eanes and George Ransome; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors.
