Obituary for Terry Dewitt Stokes

Terry Dewitt Stokes, 66 of Hopewell, VA departed his earthly life on December 4, 2024, at his residence. He was born April 15, 1958, to Eleanor Stokes Hurt in Farmville, VA.

He attended school in the Nottoway County Public School System and graduated in 1976. After graduating, he worked various jobs before moving to Alexandria, VA and enlisting in the US Army in 1982.

Terry was a dedicated serviceman, he served as a Culinary Specialist for the Quartermaster Corps in Fort Jackson, SC where he met and later married his wife of 41 years, Judy Boler Stokes. He was honorably discharged in 1989.

Upon his discharge, Terry planted his roots in Hopewell, VA. As a civilian, he worked as a Chef for over 30 years, with his most cherished and fulfilling job being Lead Chef at Dockside Restaurant. He worked there for over 20 years until his retirement.

Terry was one of a kind, and to know him was to love him. He was always full of jokes, and you were guaranteed a good laugh whenever he was around. He also had a genuine love for children that was unparalleled.
