Obituary for Terrence D. Summerhill

Terrence Dorell Summerhill was born June 24, 1970 in Richmond, VA to the late Eddie W. Summerhill, Jr. and Mary Helen Summerhill. Since his birth, he grew up in Blackstone, VA and attended Nottoway County Public Schools. “Due to his Dad’s” military career, at an early age he had to relocate several times and attended Richland County Public School in Columbia (Ft. Jackson), SC; Anne Arundel County Public School in Severn (Ft. Meade), MD and final Franklin County Public Schools where he graduated from Westerville South High School in Westerville, OH.

In 1996, Terrence married his one love, Christine Newman Palmer-Summerville, who sadly preceded him in death in 2001.

Terrence was raised in the Baptist Church and always held on to his faith. His faith and family were what was important to him. He believed in praying on matters and he believed in keeping up with his family. He was always the first to reach out with a “happy birthday”, “Merry Christmas”, “Happy New Year” and so on. He was the one who knew when everyone’s birthday was.

Of course, anyone who knows Terrence, knows that his passion was the game of football. Especially an NFL game involving his beloved team, the Dallas Cowboys to be exact!

Even in his circumstances, Terrence did not complain. He chose to live and enjoy life as best as he could to the fullest. He cherished his “Cousin’s Day” each year where all the male cousins would get together to eat crabs and hang out together. He enjoyed his trips to the Patapsco Flea Market, Sista’s 4th of July cookouts and Family Day at the park. He took advantage of any chance to be around family.

Terrence leaves behind to share precious memories: one brother, Ronald E. Gordon; one sister, Sona U. Summerhill; nephews, Ronald E. Gordon, Jr. and Dre’Shon L. Campbell; one sister-in-law, MeLissa Gordon; four loving aunts, Naomi Smith; Rosa Davis; Teresa Summerhill and Cynthia Summerhill; two uncles, Hubert Smith and Louis Summerhill, and a host of cousins, many friends but a cherished close friend, Ms. Edna M. Bailey that he met while living at Arlington West Care Center.
