Obituary for Sophronia Sydnor
SOPHRONIA H. GRADE SYDNOR, daughter of the late Thomas and Annie Berry Grade was bon April 10, 1916 in Nottoway County. She departed this life on July 2, 2009 at Southside Community Hospital in Farmville, VA at 6:00 a.m.
She received her education in the Nottoway County School System. Sophronia accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Morning Star Baptist Church, where she was very active in many capacities, such as Mother of the church, the choir, the Missionary and fundraising.
She worked at Boswell Orchard, Blankenship Cleaners and for many years at Piedmont Hospital in Burkeville from which she retired in 1978.
In 1933, she married Alfred Williams and two daughters were born to this union, Cora and Alice.
In 1951 she married Willie Sydnor and they reared seven of his nieces and nephew, James Sydnor, Jerome Sydnor, McKenley Sydnor, Gwendolyn Easter, Harrison Sydnor, Jean Sydnor and Fred Harold, III.
She is survived by her loving husband Willie; two daughters, Cora and Alice; six grandchildren, Jairus (Kathy), Ambrose (Violet), Phyllis (Ashby), Vanessa, LaFaithia (Cassius) and Chelsia; four great grandchildren, James David (LaMaria), Sheniqua, Sheigh, Quiana and Chantal; one great-great grandchild, Jahquise Devone; four sisters, Bertha Carter of Richmond, VA, Bernice Williams of Lynchburg, VA, Ada Alford of Baltimore, MD and Rosa Eppes (deceased); six brothers, James, Walter, Johnnie, Thomas, John and Kenneth; seven nieces and nephews, James, Jerome, McKenley, Gwendolyn, Harrison, Jean and Fred III; two sisters-in-law, Clayta and Ola Grade of Baltimore, MD; two sons-in-law, James Oliver and Edward Sydnor; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church, Burkeville with interment in the church cemetery.
