Obituary for Shorraine P. Lewis
On October 19, 1962, a very special gift brightened the lives of the late John Cephas and Mary Louise Pettis.  They named her Shorraine Louise Pettis.  She was born and raised in Crewe, VA and educated in Nottoway County Public Schools.  She graduated from Nottoway High School in 1981.  She also graduated from Southside Skill Center as a Nurse’s Aide and later attended John Tyler Community College, Chester, VA.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Union Baptist Church.  She later joined the Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she served on the Nurse’s Ministry.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie L. Pettis and one sister, Renita Pettis-Smith.
Shorraine was a dedicated mother.  She leaves to cherish her memories:  seven children, Jermaine M. Pettis (Clarizet) of Texas, Mareesha R. Pettis, Tyrone I. Coombs, Eliza J. Coombs, Rosa M. Coombs and Kajira L. Lewis all of Crewe, VA and Jonathan E. Coombs of Ferrum, VA; nine grandchildren: four brothers, John E. Pettis, Sr. of Maryland, Kim B. Pettis of Waynesboro, VA, Clive C. Pettis (Sherry) and Glen V. Pettis of Crewe, VA; two sisters, Harriette D. Pettis of Blackstone, VA and Reverend Rosa Pettis Johnson of Chesterfield, VA; sister-in-law, Elizabeth A. Pettis of Prince George, VA; five aunts; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, including two devoted friends who were like sisters, Maxine Hurt and Cartreia (Truck) Allen-Wright.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Fourth Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Jennings Cemetery, Crewe.

W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home of Blackstone in charge of arrangements.
