Obituary for Shirley Dodson Booker
Shirley Dodson Booker departed this life on May 2, 2019. She was born November 22, 1957, the eldest of seven children to the late Edward L. Washington, Sr. and Edna S. Washington.
She was married to James J. Booker, who preceded her in death, and to that union two children were born, Catrilia and Nicole.
She worked several places, some of which were: Velvet Textile, Virginia Apparel, Crewe Garment Factory, South Shore and Piedmont Senior Resources, which was the last place she worked before her health began to fail.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Catrilia Booker, Nicole Booker, Renarto Booker and Vondena Booker; five sisters, Frances Washington, Diane Williams (Eugene), Dorothy Harvey (William), Priscilla Mahan (Lester) and Karen Muse (James); one brother, Edward Washington Jr. (Frances); thirteen grandchildren, Kiara Booker, Roscoe Anderson, Keondra Booker, Shatoya Booker, Shyesha Booker, TyYauna Booker, Daijere Crawley, Tyrone Booker, Devonte' Foster, Raejion Dagner, Ijalaik Booker, Tyzheem Booker and Traejhon Watson; five great grandchildren; a host of adopted children and grandchildren; four aunts, Estelle Eppes, Esther Walker, Claudine Yates and Alma Dodson; and a host of cousins, friends, nieces and nephews, one of which she considered her son, Jonas Washington.
Shirley surely was a woman of strength and very outspoken. When she spoke she meant what she said. She loved her family and did whatever she could to help raise her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
