Obituary for Shirley B. Holmes
Shirley B. Holmes “Suga Mama” was born November 16, 1934 to Blanche Reed and Charlie Blackwell and departed this life on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
She was educated in Dinwiddie and graduated from Dinwiddie High School. At an early age she was baptized and joined Bloomfield Baptist Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; and a very dear friend, Howard Bonner “Pappa”.
To her card playing friends, she would say “know when to hold em and know when to fold em”.
She leaves to cherish her memory: two children, Regina Johnson “Eppie” and Rodney Earl Holmes (Kathleen); one adopted daughter Sandra Jones; one brother, Hollie Blackwell of Washington, DC; five grandchildren, Karyss, ReAuna, Eric, Rodney and Keita; eleven great grandchildren, two devoted, Shydecea “Dee-Dee Holmes and K’moni Thomas; two devoted nieces, Sharon Booker (Bubba) and Diane Johnson (Joe), two very special friends, Marian Abernathy and Jimmy Paulette; and a host of devoted aides, other nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Service Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
