Obituary for Shirley Ann Watkins
Mrs. Shirley Ann White Watkins, daughter of the late Annie B. Goodwin White and Baxter White, Sr., entered peacefully into eternal rest at Johnston Willis Hospital, Richmond, VA on Monday, June 29, 2020. She was the thirteenth youngest of fourteen children.

Shirley was baptized at an early age and joined Shiloh Baptist Church. As a child and into her adulthood, she sang in the church choirs. She remained an active member until her health declined. Shirley received her early education in the Nottoway County School System, graduating from Luther H. Foster High School in 1962. Later she attended Durham Business College, Durham, NC and received her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.

Shirley Ann first met and married Army Sergeant Hollace Curtis and to this union was born a son, Michael. SGT Curtis soon met his eternal rest while serving on active duty. Years later, she would meet and marry Marine Sergeant Richard Watkins and to this union was born a daughter, Kenita.

Shirley worked many years as a Sales Associate and retired as a private caregiver. In her spare time she pursued her love for fishing, gardening, and cooking. She was always watching cooking channels and everyone loved to get a piece of her fried chicken that she would make most Sundays. She was also known for her style of dress. She had a talent for sewing.

She leaves to cherish her precious and loving memories: a devoted and loving son, Michael Curtis (Diane) of Lynchburg, VA; a dedicated and loving daughter, Kenita Willis of Crewe, VA; five grandchildren, Kamisha Curtis of Upper Marlboro, MD, Erick Willis, Terrance Casper, Jr., SaVeon Casper and NaGene Casper, all of Crewe, VA; one great granddaughter, Aria Willis of Crewe, VA; one sister, Mary E. Porter of Chicago, IL; one brother, William H. White of Loudon, TN; one sister-in-law, Dana White of Oklahoma City, OK; special cousins, more like sisters, Beverly Neal and Frances Wilson; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.

Funeral Services Friday, July 3, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone. Interment private
