Obituary for Sherman A. Knight
SHERMAN ALPHONZA KNIGHT, son of the late James A. & Ruth E. Knight was born in Crewe, Virginia on November 3, 1941. He departed this life, suddenly at his residence in Blackstone, Virginia, on April 10, 2012. Sherman, affectionately known as “TQ”, was baptized at an early age at Union Baptist Church.
TQ attended Nottoway Public Schools and graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1962. He worked for many years, at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital, until his health began to regress.
TQ loved being to himself but enjoyed his family, friends, and neighbors’ visits, as well as working in the yard (cutting grass, planting flowers, and gardening). TQ also had a passion for watching the wrestling and his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers.
In addition to his parents, TQ was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, James, Mercedes, and Harry, two sisters, Ida Reed and Dorothy Jennings, and grandson, Jawaan Hawkes.
TQ was married to the former Lillie M. Pettis of Crewe and to this union two children were born.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Cynthia K. Farley of Chester, VA, Evelyn K. Hawkes (Carl, Jr.) of Blackstone, VA, three granddaughters, LaToya Hawkes of Chester, VA, LaCara Hawkes of Blackstone, VA, Ciara Farley of Chester, VA, one grandson, Louis “Jerrod” Farley of Chester, VA, two great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Mackari Harvey of Chester, VA, two brothers, Warren E. Knight (Gladys) of Philadelphia, PA, Matthew L. Knight (Kate) of Crewe, VA, two sisters, Barbara K. Faulk of Crewe, VA, Dallas K. Lewis (Fred) of Fort Washington, MD, one sister-in-law, Pearl C. Knight of Crewe, VA, four nieces, eleven nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews, other relatives, cousins, and friends, which includes his devoted friends at the Magnolia Place Apartment Complex in Blackstone, VA.
Funeral Services Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Knight Family Cemetery, Crewe.
