Sue, as she was affectionately called by family and friends, was the daughter of Bertie R. Oliver and the late Therman R. Oliver Sr. She was born on December 12, 1985 at MCV Hospital in Richmond, VA.
Sue accepted the Lord as her Savior at an early age, and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. As a young girl she sang in the youth choir. She remained an active and faithful member of the church until her untimely departure.
Sue attended and graduated with High Honors from Nottoway High School in 2004 where she was one of few to attend and successfully complete the Governors School Program. She furthered her education at Southside Virginia Community College where she received her Associates of Arts and Science Degree in Business Administration in 2006.
Sue learned the meaning of hard work at an early age. As a youth she worked for Greenhill Catering and Hardee’s Restaurant. She later went on to become a correctional officer working with youth at Beaumont Juvenile Correctional Center for five years until she resigned to devote all of her time to being a stay-at-home mom to the loves of her life, Cedric Jr. and Bryce.
Sue loved spending time with and taking care of her family. She also had a passion for doing hair and reading in her spare time.
Sue’s life long friendship with Cedric Hawkes Sr. evolved into a beautiful love. They had a strong commitment to each other and to their beautiful sons Cedric Jr. and Bryce.
Sue was preceded in death by her father, Therman R. Oliver Sr.; brothers, Terrance and Therman Jr. (Summer); sister, Mildred; and uncles, Ronald and Mack (Connie).
Sue will forever be loved, cherished, and remembered by her family and friends that she leaves behind: a loving and devoted fiancé Cedric Hawkes, Sr.; two adorable sons, Cedric Jr. (CJ) and Bryce Hawkes; a loving mother Bertie R. Oliver; one loving and devoted brother, Theron Oliver of Crewe (Deandra); one loving and devoted sister, Lauren Oliver of Crewe; her loving uncles and stand-in fathers, James (Arlene), Mark (Ella), Samuel (Shirley), Elston (Dale), Charles (Linda), and Daniel (Emma); one devoted aunt, Janice; three nephews, Trevon, Therman III, and Tre’Shawn; one niece, Te’Ahra; one goddaughter, Whitley; a devoted cousin, Trina Robertson; other relatives and friends. Sue also leaves to cherish her memory, extended family, Kermit and Lucy Hawkes; Grandma Lucy Ward; nieces, Olivia and Marcella; nephews, Cordell, Brandon, Christopher, Keon, Kylik, Malik, and Raquan; devoted cousin, Frankie Lipscomb; the Ward Family and the Hawkes Family.
