Obituary for Skitchy
Samuel Edward Lee, Sr. peacefully transitioned to his eternal home on Saturday, December 24, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center, Midlothian, VA. Samuel, lovingly known as “Skitchy” or “Sam,” was born January 12, 1940, to the late Murray Lee Bennett in Prince Edward County.
At an early age, Samuel joined High Rock Baptist Church. He attended Prince Edward County Public Schools. He later enrolled in the Vocational Training Program at the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center in Fishersville, Virginia as an adult. While there he received a Certificate of Completion in Upholstery.
Samuel loved music and singing. He was a member of the High Rock choir(s) and the Ideal Spirituals Gospel Group. He played music in the dining room at the Amelia Rehab and Healthcare Center (nursing home). He enjoyed singing with the choir during the holidays at the nursing home. He took pleasure in participating in the nursing home’s Special Olympics. He liked card games, puzzles, other games, and activities. He made beaded bracelets, painted pictures, and sold them at craft shows and other events. As a true businessman, he ensured that he had business cards and t-shirts to promote his crafting endeavors. He did not let his physical limitations stop him from doing what he wanted to accomplish. When he felt proud of his work, he was going to let you know it too. One of his favorite charities was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his mother Murray Lee Bennett, stepfather Edward Bennett, Maternal grandparents Albert and Mable Lee, four aunts: five uncles and other family members.
He leaves to cherish his memory; a son Samuel Lee, Jr.; granddaughter Indya Lee; one uncle Alvin Lee; two aunts-in-law Queen Lee and Mary Iona Lee; special dedicated friend Ciara Oliver; cousins, other relatives, and friends.
