Obituary for Samuel Joseph Lewis
Samuel “Sam” Joseph Lewis, departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home, in Blackstone, Virginia.
Sam was born on April 5, 1932, in Amelia County, VA to the late John E. Lewis and Alice Anderson Lewis.
Sam was educated in Amelia County Schools. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army. He worked for many years for the Standard Paper Company & Union Envelope Company in Richmond, VA.
On April 29, 1957, Sam married Eleanor Rebecca Ruffin who preceded him in death. To this union they were blessed with six children who will fondly cherish the memories of their parents.
Sam leaves to cherish his memory the following loved ones: Children: Charlene M. Yates (Ernest) of Blackstone, Va.; Samuel J. Lewis (Gloria) of LaGrange, Ga.; Gloria L. Nelms (William) of Huachuca City, Az.; Thomas E. Lewis of Amelia, Va.; Darlene L. Robinson of Silver Spring, Md.; Minister Nathaniel L. Lewis (Camilla) of Amelia, Va.; eight grand-children; Anthony Bey, Tyrone Lewis, LaTarsha Lewis, Brian Lewis, Christian Robinson, Gregory Lewis, Jasmine Lewis and Tiearra Lewis. One great-granddaughter, Jihan N. Lewis and eight step-grand children and four great-step grand children. Sisters: Mamie Seaton (Jerry deceased), Richmond, VA; Alice Balton (deceased); Amy Clements (Floyd), both deceased. Brothers: Clarence Lewis, Sr. (Mary Ella deceased) Amelia, VA; William E. "Turkey" Lewis (deceased); and Walter Lewis (Rita) both deceased. One surviving aunt Violet M. Lewis, wife of the late Joe Lewis. Brothers-in-law: Andrew Ruffin (Evelyn) and Matthew Ruffin (Gloria). Sisters-in-law: Alease Murray (Benjami) and Catherine Epps of Richmond, VA; Gladys Clements (William); Ercelle Ruffin, Fannie Mae Carey and Patricia Ruffin, all of Amelia, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, oither relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.
