Obituary for Sam 'Bobby' Thomas
Sam “Bobby” Lee Thomas went to his heavenly home on Monday, January 11, 2016.  Born in Blackstone, Virginia on February 24, 1966, he was the son of (Sarah) Frances Harper and the late Lewis Harper, Sr.  There was a huge winter storm on the day he was born, and his dad’s closest friend also nicknamed him “Stormy Weather.”
Bobby graduated from Nottoway Senior High School in 1986, where he ran track and was a trombone player in the band and is remembered for all the joy and humor he brought to his fellow band members.
For many years, he worked at various locations within the Richmond and Maryland metro areas as a certified heavy equipment operator, electrician and repairman, in residential and commercial construction, furniture manufacturing, corrections, warehousing, retail sales, plumbing, as a farm manager, and most recently distribution for Circle Sales of Blackstone.  He was also an avid car enthusiast and enjoyed working with his hands. Many sought out his skills and knowledge when it came to all things mechanical, but especially automobiles and trucks. Bobby was a dog lover and could often be seen walking with his pit bull, Kenyo and his doberman, Juno.  Above all, he was known for his love for enjoying life, his sense of humor and his sense of style – Bobby wore some of the snappiest suits in town.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Harper, Sr., his brother, Lewis Harper, Jr. (Junnie Boy), his nephew, Aaron  Cooper and his “honorary sister,” Bernadette Gash.  He leaves to mourn his loss a devoted son, Quintin Thomas (Cheryl) of Richmond, a loving mother, Mrs. Sarah Harper of Blackstone, his “honorary daughter,” Chyna Patrick of Blackstone; four brothers, James Thomas (Aretha) of Hampton, Virginia; Samuel Turner (Joyce) of Glen Allen, Virginia, Michael Thomas of Blackstone, and James (Jimmy) Stewart of Blackstone; five sisters, Alice Rose Cradle of Blackstone, Willie Mae Wright of Richmond, Flora Matthews of Richmond, Barbara Gilchrist (Lenue) of Haymarket, Virginia, and Patricia Lewis (Wayne) of Blackstone, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Harper of Meherrin, Virginia.  Bobby had one grandson, Quintin Jr., along with a host of nieces and nephews (Tusonia, Marques, James, Jr. (Rico), Shan (Jennifer), Sam Jr., Andrea, Lenue III, Maleah, Brandon, Tony, Andre, Ariana, Alex, Antonio, Shayla, Jalen, Ronnie, Lewis III, Jordan and Jermiah); and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. Bobby had numerous friends within many communities. He will be greatly missed.
