Obituary for Sallie H. Bagley
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also the love his appearing”…………...2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV
Sallie Hawkes Bagley entered into eternal rest on April 5, 2017 at Amelia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Amelia, VA. She was truly happy there, the staff loved her and she loved the staff.
Sallie was born on October 22, 1921 to Edward B. and Lutanner Thomas Hawkes in Nottoway County. She was the youngest of four girls. She was very close to and enjoyed her older three sisters, Bessie, Susie and Margaret who have preceded her in death.
She graduated from the Nottoway Training School in Blackstone, VA. At an early age she became a member of Shiloh Baptist church, where she was a faithful member. She loved her church and attended services regularly until her health started to decline. She was a member of the choir and the Missionary Ministry.
In 1936 she married Brad Bagley who preceded her in death. To this union four children were born, three sons Brad Leon, Leroy, Hlbem Thako E-Farahji and a daughter Sallie Marie.
Sallie had a special bond with the late Everett and Elsie Lee Pennington and this bond has continued with their children and grandchildren.
Sallie loved to listen to gospel music, do word-finds books and watch soap operas. She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and had a contagious smile. She was very content with life, never complained, and loved the Lord. She was a great listener from early in the morning until 7:00 pm (bedtime). Sallie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be missed dearly.
She leaves to cherish her memories: three loving and devoted sons, Brad Leon Bagley of Petersburg, VA, Leroy Bagley of Richmond, VA and Hlbem Thako E-Farahji of Blackstone, VA; devoted daughter with whom she shared a special bond, Sallie Green and her husband James (Peter) of Brooklyn, NY whom she loved deeply, especially his hats; a very special devoted great niece who was like a daughter Jacqueline (Little-Jackie) Ingram and her husband Henry of Kenbridge, VA; seven grandchildren: devoted granddaughters, Renae Bagley and Erica Bagley both of Virginia; devoted grandson Kevin Wright of Virginia; grandsons Brad (Tamara) Bagley, Stacey (Trina) Roberts of Virginia, Daryl Green and Branden Green of New York; four great grandchildren, Jasmine, Hasifah, Andre and K’Vahzsa; a dedicated niece Marion Lucille (James) Dyson; two nephews John Edward Williams and Clarence E.
