Obituary for Sadie R. Spicely
Sadie Roberta Spicely was born May 15, 1915 to the late Stith A. and Lottie Greenhill Tucker in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. Sadie was one of eleven children born from this union.
She was married to the late Lincoln Lazarus Spicely for fifty years. Sadie departed this life on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Chesapeake General Hospital.
Sadie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springhill Baptist Church in Blackstone, Virginia. She attended school in Dinwiddie County, Virginia. After marriage to Lincoln, they moved to live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From their union came one son, Lincoln Thomas Spicely.
Sadie was an energetic lady who enjoyed taking care of others. She was employed as an elevator operator and later as a custodial worker for many years in Philadelphia.
She was a great homemaker and loved her family. She adored her son who she affectionately called “Tommy”. She has lived with Tommy and this wife in Virginia for the past ten years.
Sadie leaves to cherish her memory a loving son, Lincoln, a daughter in law, Maryland, two grandsons Lincoln Darnell and Lamar Daniel (Kimberly), two great grandchildren, Deja Kay and Lucas Lamar, beloved sisters, Bernice Spicely, Lottie Fowlkes, sister-in-law Evelyn Spicely and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Much respected and admired, Sadie possessed high moral character. Her life was the epitome of integrity, grace, respect, kindness, humility, pride, and deep faith—an example worthy of emulation by all. Her radiant smile and warm spirit was a source of inspiration and strength for others too. Sadie will be greatly missed because she enriched so many lives.
Funeral Service Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at 12:00 noon at W.E. Hawkes & Son Funeral Home, Blackstone with interment in the Greenview Cemetery, Blackstone.
