Ruth received her formal education at Nottoway County Public Schools. After completing the 11th grade, she worked for two different families here in Blackstone for several years. She later moved to Baltimore, MD and then to New York City. She lived in New York until the early 1980’s and decided to retire and move back to Blackstone (home).
She was a member of Springhill Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir for many years. She loved to sing. As a resident of Heritage Hall, she would sing everyday, music was her favorite.

She leaves to cherish her memory, Lillian (Ernest) Collins and Russell-Sonny (Olivia) Eppes; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; two special friends, Thelma P.
