A Time for Commitment…
Russell L. Coleman, a native of Burkeville, Virginia, was born to Leroy and Shirley Coleman. He received his education in Nottoway County school system. Russell dedicated his career to Norfolk and Western Railroad, where he worked until his retirement.
A man of faith, Russell was baptized at Yielding Zion Baptist Church. He was passionate about music, both singing and playing the guitar, and used his talents to inspire others. He founded the groups Russell Coleman and the Gospel Travelers and later Russell Coleman and the Heavenlyaires, leaving a lasting legacy through his music ministry.
Russell shared a deep and enduring love with his wife, Mildred Coleman. The two were happily married for 42 years, creating a life filled with love, devotion, and cherished memories.
A Time to Die…
On Sunday, January 12, 2025, between two twilights, Russell answered the call of the divine, permanently laid down his guitar, and took a one-way flight on a celestial chariot to sing in the heavenly choir.
But that’s not the end of the story …
A Time for Reunion …
There waiting amongst the celestial congregation to welcome Russell on the other side, his father, mother and brother Leroy, Shirley and Randy Coleman. Those that remain to love him in memory, his loving wife Mildred Coleman; his seven children: Donny Woodlin, Russell (LaTosha) Coleman, Jr., Daniel (Robin) Woodlin, Darlana Moore, Dikaro Woodlin, D"Andre (Audrey) Coleman, Danyal McCray, A host of devoted siblings, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
