The Lord in his infinite wisdom, called Rufus A. Coleman from labor to reward on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at The Barrington at Hioaks with his wife, daughter and son-in-law by his side.
Rufus known as “Jim” to family and friends was the fourth (4th) of eight children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coleman, Sr. Rufus was reared in Amelia County, VA where he was trained in Christian Discipleship at the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Jetersville, VA.
Rufus’ younger sister introduced him to Miss Elnora Robinson, whom he dated, married and they had one daughter Deborah Kay. The couple moved to Bronx, New York and joined with the Trinity Baptist Church of Bronx, NY.
Rufus was employed by Konisberg & Son Trucking for 20 years, before relocating to Jetersville, VA and was employed by Columbia Gas, Richmond, VA from which he retired.
Everyone knew Rufus’ love for trucks and cars, he drove them and worked on them for himself and others. He was meticulous about his surroundings, ensuring the property’s grass was cut and manicured. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Rufus leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 65 years Elnora, one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and James Nelson, Sr.; one sister, Ann Adams of Antonio, TX; Two sisters-in-law, Julia and Maxine; three brothers-in-law John, Ronald, and Rev. Robert Robinson. Four nieces, four nephews, a devoted niece, Rose Thompson and a devoted nephew, Malcolm Coleman, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives.
Rufus was preceded in death by his only grandchild, Alfred Leon II; and six siblings.
If one word could describe Rufus it would be servant. Matthew 23:11, with that definition of greatness, we can all be great!
