Obituary for Roy L. Blackwell, Sr.
“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15
Brother Roy L. Blackwell, Sr. our loved one entered into eternal rest at his residence on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.  Roy, son of the late Luther and Rena Blackwell, was born in Nottoway County on October 10, 1938.
He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Edith Marie Edmonds on November 14, 1959.  To this union three jewels were born.
Roy accepted Jesus Christ as his savior at an early age and was baptized at Little Mount Baptist Church, Brunswick County.  There he was a member of the men chorus and worked faithfully and diligently as an door keeper (usher) for over twenty-five years.
His time of employment was with B. P. Short Paving, Petersburg, VA for several years; Ken-Lea Industries for over twenty-seven years, and Reiss Cooperation, Blackstone VA over ten years.
Brother Roy loved his wife and worked hard to provide for his family.  He was a man of his word with strong faith in the Lord.  His motto was to never give up, never leave a job undone, and trust in the Lord as your guide.   Hobbies were fishing, gardening, landscaping, playing guitar, and football (true redskin fan).
He was preceded in death by his wife Edith; son Gregory Lamont Blackwell; sisters, Annie R. Spratley, Mable Parker, twin sister Mary Allicott; brothers in-law, Robert Spratley, Rev. Isaiah Parker, Morris Evans, Eugene Allicott.  He leaves to cherish his fond memories:  a loving daughter, Helen (Alphus), a loving son, Roy L. Blackwell, Jr.; three grandchildren, Naquita Marie Bassfields, Alphus Maurice Bassfield, Shelah Ann Bassfield all of Richmond, VA; a host of devoted and faithful nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dad will be sincerely missed by all who knew his walk with the Lord.  Love everybody!
