Obituary for Rosa Mae Hawkes
Rosa Mae Hawkes was granted her angel wings on Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Blackstone, Virginia. She was born on November 3, 1924 to the late Earl Taylor and Cora Lee Taylor in Dinwiddie County.
At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined Shiloh Baptist Church (Dinwiddie) where she served faithfully as an usher until the decline of her health. She was employed at Velvet Textile for many years and retired from the Nottoway Public School System. Her gentle smile and caring ways brought so much joy to the family.
She was married to the late Richard H. Hawkes, Sr. on February 20, 1940 and to this union they had six sons. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, one sister and two daughters-in-law.
She leaves to cherish her memories five devoted sons and daughters-in-law, Leroy, Clinton (Annette), Ernest (Edith), Macktoy (Juanita) all of Blackstone, VA, Richard Jr. (Carrie) of Warfield, VA; daughter-in-law Cathy Hawkes of Blackstone, VA; three sisters Emma Pearce, Mary Groves and Gloserine Bradsher of MD; one brother Earl Taylor, Jr. of Blackstone, VA; two step sisters Martha Bridgeforth and Arlene Mikeal of Blackstone, VA; and a step brother Arthur Jackson of Blackstone, VA; seventeen grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation Wednesday, March 30, 2011 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, Dinwiddie with interment in the church cemetery.
