Obituary for Rosa L. Bland
Rosa Lucinda Scott Bland, the daughter of the late Mabel Epps Scott and James Scott, was born on May 15, 1921 in Blackstone, Virginia, Nottoway County. Rosa went home to be with the Lord 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Elderly World Group Home Facility in Landover, MD.
Rosa’s formal education took place in the schools of Blackstone, Virginia.
Rosa joined the church at a young age. She was baptized in a chilly stream in the back of Prospect Baptist Church in Blackstone, Virginia. She met and married Copie Bland on April 5, 1939 and celebrated 54 years of marriage until Copie’s sudden death in February 1994. After her marriage to Copie she joined New Bethel Baptist Church. Rosa served the Lord by singing in the choir. Her favorite song was “I Found the Answer, I Learned to Pray” Rosa believed in prayer. She read her bible, the daily word, and Life Study Fellowship everyday. She prayed at 9 A.M., 12 Noon and 9 P.M. with the life fellowship partners.
During Rosa’s early years of marriage, she stayed home and worked on the farm. Later she worked and retired as a cook from the Piedmont Geriatric Hospital in Burkeville, Virginia.
Rosa and Copie never had children, so her nieces and nephews were very special to her. She will always be remembered for her coconut custard pies, fried chicken, home grown black-eyed peas and country ham. She always had a beautiful smile, with lots of dimples; a kindness that was full of love and generosity; and a devout love for Jesus Christ.
Rosa, after the death of Copie, moved to Bowie, MD to live with her sister, Hazel (who preceded her in death in 2006) and her niece and nephew- in- law. Rosa united with the Glendale Baptist Church now the Sanctuary at Kingdom Square in 1996 under watch care.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories, one sister-in-law Emma Bland of Blackstone, VA, a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, Mrs. Walker and the staff of Elderly World in Landover, MD, and the Leadership of the Sanctuary at Kingdom Square, Capitol Heights, MD.
