Obituary for Rosa L. Givens
Peacefully on Thursday morning, February 6, 2020 at Hickory Hill Retirement Home in Burkeville, VA our Heavenly Father touched “Rosa Lee Dickerson Givens” with a final finger of love and whispered “My child, it’s time to enter your eternal home free from pain and suffering to rest from your labor”.

Rosa was born in Amelia, Virginia on June 29, 1940. She was the fourth of eight children born to the late Detwiley and Edith Booker Dickerson. She received her formal education in Amelia County Public Schools.

Early in her life, Rosa accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, was baptized and became a member of the Union Branch Baptist Church. After relocating to Richmond, Ohio, North Carolina or wherever she resided, Rosa was a born again Christian who loved the Lord and developed a strong relationship with Him in her daily walk. He was her rock and fortress. She strived daily to cultivate her faith in God, believing that whatever happens to us along our life’s journey that God is in control of it all .

During her early years after completing her education, she relocated to Richmond. While there, and she met and married Chester S. Givens. From this union three children were born: Douglas, Vernon Wayne and Chester, Jr.

Rosa was always a pleasant, warm-spirited and fun loving person that enlightened the hearts of all who was in her presence. Rosa loved her family and friends to the extinct that she kept in close contact with them. She possessed the ability to adapt and to make herself content in whatever situation that life brought her way. Though Almighty God in His infinite Wisdom saw fit to take her from our midst, but we believe in the Word of God which declares to be absence from the body is to be in the presence of the Lord. Just knowing that “Rosa” is in His care – We bow in humble submission to the will of God who is able to do all things except fail. So we say “Thank You, Lord” for seventy– nine years to treasure and to hold fast in our memories.

Rosa is preceded in death by her siblings of five sisters: Velma, Ella Mae, Isabella, and Jeraline; one brother: Detwiley Jr.

She leaves to rejoice and continue her legacy of love and friendship: a loving and devoted husband, Chester S. Givens, Sr. of Burkeville; three caring and devoted sons, Douglas, Vernon Wayne and Chester, Jr. of Richmond; one granddaughter, Vernika; two great-grandchildren, Aneizia, Za-mier; one sister, Lucille Monroe (Wilson)of Amelia; two brothers, Larry Dickerson (Patricia) and Martin Dickerson(Palma) of Richmond; one aunt, Julia Coleman of Jetersville; five sisters–in-law, Mary Friend of Richmond, Frances Brown, Alice Worsham (Frank), Addie Monroe (John), Jacqueline Booker (Frank) of Amelia; one brother-in-law, Tyrone Givens (Selena) of Amelia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many other friends especially her Hickory Hill Retirement Home staff and residents.
