Obituary for Roosevelt Robinson
DEACON ROOSEVELT ROBINSON departed this life on Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Amelia Nursing Home in Amelia, VA. He was born in Amelia to the late Granison and Nannie Lee Robinson on May 28, 1927.
Roosevelt attended Promise Land School. At an early age he joined the Promise Land Baptist Church. He moved and lived in New Jersey with his family for a number of years. While living there he was a police officer and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Roosevelt served as Treasurer of the church for a number of years, he was also ordained as a Deacon of the church.
It was on May 26, 1947 that Roosevelt was united in holy matrimony with Dorothy Robinson. This union was blessed with seven children: Remy, Roosevelt Jr., Richard, Cindy, Walter, Dorothy and Connie. Dorothy and Connie preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Dorothy; two daughters, Remy (Michael) Corbett of Amelia, VA and Cindy Robinson of Newark, NJ; three sons, Roosevelt Robinson, Jr. of Newark, NJ, Walter and Richard Robinson of Amelia, VA; twenty-three grandchildren, seventy-six great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; two brothers, William G. (Regina) Robinson and Louis V. (Carolyn) Robinson of Amelia, VA; eleven sisters, Gracie Butler, Marion Royal, Ernestine Crews, Hattie Robinson, Kathleen (Robert) Jones, Jacqueline (Fletcher) Perry, Nannie Marie (Joseph) Owens, Joyce Ann Clay, Angelina Whitted, all of Amelia, VA, Delores Patrick of Baltimore, MD and Ruth (Allen) Washington of Richmond, VA; one uncle, William Hanabe Robinson of Amelia, VA; five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, Vernell (Elwood) Royal, Shirley White, Victoria Archer, Richard (Marion) Robinson of Amelia, VA, Beatrice Alston of Newark, NJ and Henry (Julia) Archer of Richmond, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Promise Land Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
