Obituary for Roosevelt D. Stewart, Jr.
Roosevelt David Stewart Jr., affectionately known as “Goo” was born to the late Roosevelt Stewart Sr. and Henrietta R. Stewart on January 17, 1949. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wendell Stewart and Baby Stewart.
Roosevelt attended Luther H. Foster High School and graduated in 1969. He joined the Union Baptist Church at an early age.
Family and friends knew Roosevelt as a gardener, yard worker and most of all for playing his guitar. He loved to play different songs, his #1 song, “Everyday Will Be Like a Holiday” was dedicated to his wife Carolyn and mother Henrietta.
Roosevelt served in the Army for five years and one year in the Vietnam War. He received many medals and badges, and mostly he was proud of being an expert sharp shooter. He worked at Piedmont Geriatric Hospital for many years and later retired.
Roosevelt married Carolyn Fowlkes on May 6, 1972. To this union four children were born, Anthony, Timothy, Tyree and Crystal.
Roosevelt Stewart departed this life on Monday, February 18, 2013. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Carolyn Stewart; three sons, Anthony (Tisha) Stewart, Timothy (Luciana) Stewart of Blackstone, VA and Tyree (Mary) Stewart of Chesterfield, VA; one daughter Crystal Stewart of Blackstone, VA; two sisters, Elaine (Billy) Parker of Crewe, VA and Arnetha Doswell of Baltimore, MD; one brother, Bernell (Marsha) Stewart of Crewe, VA; mother-in-law, Lacy J. Fowlkes of Crewe, VA; sisters-in-law, Barbara (James) Hill, and Brenda (Earl) Rather of Blackstone, VA; brother-in-law, Robert (Carolyn) Fowlkes of Blackstone, VA; fifteen grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services Friday, February 22, 2013 at 11:00 a.am at Union Baptist Church, Crewe with interment in the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
