Obituary for Roosevelt Banks
Roosevelt (Sweeney, Bob) Banks, the son of the late Mike and Carrie Bell Banks was born August 20, 1940 in Amelia, VA. He departed this life on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Johnston Willis Medical Center following a brief illness. He attended Brick Church Grade School and graduated from Russell Grove High School with the class of 1959. Roosevelt joined the Liberty Baptist Church at an early age, under the leadership of Reverend G.W. Manning. He was a faithful member and served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for several years. Roosevelt actively served in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Great Sitkin from September, 1959 until May, 1963. He was a very dedicated member of both the Royal Arch and the Blue Lodge. He served as Secretary of the Royal Arch for several years and completed (2) four year terms as Master in the Blue Lodge. During his first term, the new lodge was built under his administration: The Obadiah-Bethany Lodge #170. He also was an employee of E.R. Carpenter as a Quality Control manager for thirty-four years prior to retiring in 1998. He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted daughter, Karen (Reginald) Moore, her mother, Virgie, grandson, Austyn Moore, step-son, Beverly Smith, all of Richmond, VA; seven sisters, Helen Mosley, Georgia Harrison, Doris Booker, Maryann Person, all of Amelia, VA, Bethel Martin, Linda Murary of Richmond, VA and Mary Johnson (Ricky) of Snow Hill, MD; brother, James Banks of Richmond, VA; two aunts, Adel Goodman and Lucille Carruth, both of New York; two uncles, Joe Banks of Norfolk, VA and Daniel Brown of New York; a devoted niece, Sherry Banks; six sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, among them, a devoted friend, Patricia Jones-Jackson of Richmond, VA. There will be visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, October 28, 2007 from 6 til 7 p.m.Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 29, 2007 at 12:00 noon from Liberty Baptist Church, Amelia, VA. Interment in the church cemetery with Military and Masonic Rites.
