Obituary for Robert Redd
Robert Redd, son of the late Robert and Elsie Redd was born on February 17, 1930 in Meherrin, Virginia. He departed this life on October 14, 2012.
Robert Redd, also known as “Cecil”, received his formal education in Meherrin, VA. As a young man of nineteen years old, he left Meherrin seeking employment in Baltimore, MD.
At the age of twenty-three he married Lauvinia Lee on May 30, 1953. from this union they were blessed with five children, one of whom preceded him in death, Robert Nelson Redd, in 1988.
Robert Redd was a dedicated father and husband. In addition he was always there to help other family members in a time of need.
Robert Redd was employed with Continental Can Company for forty-one years. Upon his retirement he was recognized and honored for having only missed one day of work in forty-one years. In addition he owned his own Tavern during the 70’s.
Robert Redd was known in his neighborhood to be a father figure for other children. For many years he would have the neighborhood children pile up in his truck during the Summer months for hay rides and trips to the beaches, state parks and carnivals in Baltimore. In addition to the children in the neighborhood loving him, their parents looked to him for support. He would help families to move in and out of homes. He also helped the Afro-American Clean Block Association by keeping the streets and alleys clean within his community.
Robert Redd leaves to cherish his memory, which are many, three daughters, Deborah, Joyce and Joanne; one son, Sylvester; twelve grandchildren, Ronald Booker, who he raised as his own son, Parrish Redd, Gregory Trogdon, Charles Bass, Charles Stewart, Keisha Pinkneg, Sylvester Redd, Jr., Angela Whitfield, Damon Trogdon, Charles Weems, Chemere Tate and Anthony Redd; nineteen great grandchildren; one son-in-law, Calvin Scott; one sister, Gloria Coles; two brothers, Arthur Redd and Clarence Redd; and a host of many loving cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Forrest Batist Church, Meherrin with interment to follow Monday, October 22, 2012 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Baltimore, MD.
