Obituary for Robert Logan Harris, Sr.
Robert L. Harris Sr. was born in Blackstone Virginia on July 15, 1930. He went to his heavenly home on August 14, 2018 at the Veterans Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Charles and Louise Harris.

Robert graduated from Luther H. Foster High School. He joined the army and served in the Korean War as a radio operator in Austria for 2 years.

He worked at Bethlehem Steel Company in Baltimore, Maryland. He was employed with the steel mill for 38 years.

Robert married his late wife, Mary M. Gallion on December 25, 1955 and to this union was born a son Robert L. Harris Jr.

He became a member of New Prospect Baptist Church at a young age. Upon moving to Baltimore he joined Fountain Baptist Church where he became a deacon. He moved his membership to Ray of Hope Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon.

He retired in 1992 and returned to Blackstone and rejoined New Prospect Baptist Church. He was a deacon, Sunday school superintendent, a member of the Southside Deacon Conference, finance committee and a member of the Executive Board for the Sunday School Union.

He enjoyed reading and teaching about the word of God. He was truly a Christian man.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Harris and his son, Robert L. Harris Jr. He is survived by his daughter in law, Tara Harris of Franklinton, North Carolina; two granddaughters, Rae Harris and Tomyra Harris of Durham, North Carolina; two sisters, Mary White of Portsmouth, Virginia and Sara Johnson of Blackstone, Virginia; and a host of loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at New Prospect Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment Harris Family Cemetery, Blackstone.
