Obituary for Richard J. Christopher
Richard Joshua Christopher entered eternal rest on November 21, 2017 at 4:45 am, peacefully at home. He was born to the late John J. Christopher and Mary E. Johnson Christopher. He was the 6th of 12 children from their union.

He was baptized and joined Spring Hill Baptist Church at a young age. He went to school in the Camp Area at Jones School, then Broad Street in Amelia, Flat Creek, Jennings Ordinary and then Nottoway Training.

He worked in Philadelphia and with the State Department. He was then drafted into the army in 1951. He served 2 years and defended our country in the Korean War. After serving his term he was honorably discharged and returned home. Richard then attended Russell Grove Training School and studied farming. He then worked on a Dairy farm for 18 years while farming, raising tobacco, and cattle of his own. He retired from Piedmont Geriatric Hospital and Citizens Bank and Trust in Burkeville.

In 1953, he was united in holy matrimony to his sweetheart Alice Mae Booth on December 26th. From their 64 years union they had 2 sons: Gary (Sandra) and Dennis. He was preceded in death by his son Gary; his brothers Johnny, Joseph, and Lawrence; and his sisters Margaret, Cora, and Cordelia.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife Alice Mae; his son Dennis; his sisters Florence, Mary, Helen; his brothers Nathan and Earl; his daughter-in-law Sandra; his grandchildren Leslie, Reggie, T’Ana (AJ), Travis (Carrie), and Stanley (Tanicia); and great-grandchildren Teresa, Raven, Tyrek, Taylor, James, Adrian, Victoria, Anaya, Nicholas, Falcon, Trenton, and one on the way. Also, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Springhill Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment church cemetery.
