Obituary for Rena B. Brown
Mrs. Rena Earle Booker Brown entered into eternal rest on January 12, 2022 at her home in Blackstone, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Benjamin Booker and Mrs. Bradia Booker of Amelia, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, Mr. Charles Freeman Brown.

Mrs. Brown graduated from Russel Grove High School in Amelia, Virginia and later graduated from Virginia State University in Petersburg, Virginia. Upon graduating from this university, Mrs. Brown accepted a teaching position in Crewe, Virginia. After teaching in Crewe for a few years, she accepted a teaching position at Blackstone Primary School in Blackstone, Virginia—a position from which she retired after over 30 years of teaching. Mrs. Brown was highly respected and loved by her students.
Mrs. Brown joined the Union Baptist Church in Church Road, Virginia at an early age. She was a member of the Senior Choir and held many positions at this church. She was also a member of the Blackstone Community Chorus for several years and a long-time member of the Evergreen-Benjamin Chapter Number 64 Order of the Eastern Star. Additionally, she was a member of the Golden Sealark Gospel Singers, which consisted of her two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Fields and Mrs. Arethea Tucker, and her sister-in-law, Pastor Rose Booker. This singing group was well known all over Virginia.

Mrs. Brown’s favorite hobbies were fishing and traveling to various states with her friends, Mrs. Helen Brown and Mrs. Frances Scott, and her sister, Mrs. Arethea Tucker. In recent years, she also enjoyed eating out with her good and caring friend, Mrs. Hattie Jones.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Mr. Benjamin Booker, Mr. George Booker, and Mr. Alphonso Booker, Sr.; her niece, Mrs. Bradia Booker Johnson; her sisters, Mrs. Bernice Fields and Mrs. Arethea Tucker; a great nephew, Mr. Alexander Booker; and a nephew, Mr. Alphonso Booker, Jr.

Mrs. Brown leaves to celebrate her memory, her loving and devoted God-daughter, Dr. Carolyn M. Tucker (Mr. Theotis Callaway, husband) of Gainesville, Florida; her devoted great niece, Mrs. Charlene Archer (Mr. Shaun Archer, husband) of Amelia, Virginia; her devoted nephew, Mr. Marius Basilia of Mechanicsville, Virginia; her caring niece, Ms. Bradia Owens; her sister-in-law, Pastor Rose Booker of Mechanicsville, Virginia; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
We will cherish Mrs. Brown’s memory, and will miss her laughter and compassion toward those she loved. We thank God for all that she has done for and given to her family and Union Baptist Church.

Viewing will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 10AM to 7PM at the funeral home. Funeral Service Friday, January 21, 2022 at 11:00AM at Poplar Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone. Interment Bloomfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilson, VA
