Obituary for Reginald J. Hawkes
Reginald Jamil Hawkes, 20, of Crewe, Virginia passed away suddenly September 19, 2017 as result of a motor vehicle accident. Reggie was born June 9, 1997 in Chesterfield, Virginia to Cashawn and Reginald R. Hawkes.

He attended Nottoway County Schools and graduated from Nottoway High School in 2016. He recently graduated from the Department of Corrections Academy for Staff Development and was currently employed at Nottoway Correctional Center in Burkeville, Virginia as a 3rd generation Correctional Officer following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. He was proud of his accomplishments and also becoming a new father.

Reggie was affectionately known as “Jamil” or “Mil” to family. He loved being around his family and friends, especially his brother, sister and cousins. He especially had a great love for his “Nanny” (Edith) and “Papa” (Ernest). Reggie had a love for cars, especially old ones, and sharing those interests with his friends. He also had a passion for reading and an interest about life and the world. Reggie was a special young man who was quiet, but spoke volumes.

Brian Edmonds, Reggie’s Godfather, and a host of great grandparents preceded him in death. Two devoted friends known as part of the Country Boys of 612, Kiam White and Larry Jones also passed away as a result of the same motor vehicle accident.

To celebrate his life and cherish his memory, Reggie leaves his son, Reginald Jamil Hawkes, Jr; his parents, Reginald Ray and Cashawn Hawkes, of Crewe, Virginia; his brother, Dwayne M. (Ana-Marie) Tucker, of Hampton Sydney, Virginia; his sister, JaCara Hawkes of Crewe, Virginia. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Marie Hardy (”Ma”) of Blackstone, Virginia and William (Dee) Hardy of Oxon Hill, Maryland; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Edith Hawkes of Blackstone, Virginia; maternal great grandmother, Alma Fitzgerald of Nottoway, Virginia; two devoted aunts, Donna (Walter) Fitzgerald-Chaffin of Nottoway, Virginia and Artonda (Dwayne) Cheeseman of Hampton, Virginia. Reggie also leaves behind two nephews, Anthony and Ayden; special cousins Shelby Fitzgerald, Walter L. Chaffin and Arrick Chaffin of Nottoway, Virginia, Brianna Thompson, Deaundra Hawkes, and Makiya Fowlkes of Blackstone, Virginia; Godmother, Anika Johnson of Chesterfield, Virginia; Godbrother Amari Edmonds of Blackstone, Virgina; his girlfriend Kaitlyn Clayton of Blackstone, Virginia; a host of cousins and devoted friends, Jhamahd Marshall, Tre El, Robert Jefferson and Geordan Ghee.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Nottoway Middle School Auditorium.
