Obituary for Rebecca D. West
Ms. Rebecca C. West, 80 of Blackstone, VA transitioned peacefully on April 2, 2023, in Chesterfield, VA at the home of her sister Anita.
Rebecca, daughter of the late Roger Coleman, Sr. and Johanna Coleman Muse was born August 19, 1942. She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter, Loida Johnson. At an early age Rebecca joined Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and participated in several different ministries. She graduated from Luther H. Foster High School in 1960. Rebecca marched and sat for human rights with the NAACP. She worked for Levi Strauss in Blackstone until their closing. In her 50’s, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant and went to work for McGuire Veteran’s Hospital, where she was highly respected, loved and appreciated until she retired in 2021 at the youthful age of 79.
Rebecca leaves to cherish her memories two devoted daughters, Janis Allen (Lafayette) of Crewe, VA and Yolanda Coleman of Chester, VA; seven siblings, Roger Coleman, Jr. of Crewe, VA, Joseph Coleman of Richmond, VA, Richard Coleman (Barbara) of North Carolina; devoted sisters, Lillian Epps (James, deceased) of Crewe, VA, Ruth Coleman of Chesterfield, VA, Johanna Cousins of Chesterfield, VA and Anita Lee (Leamon) of Chesterfield, VA; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Viewing Thursday, April 6, 2023 from 5 to 7 P.M. and Friday, April 7, 2023 from 12 to 7 PM. Graveside Service Saturday, April 8, 2023 at 3:00PM at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 476 Mt. Nebo Rd., Blackstone, VA.
