Rachel W. Vaughan, affectionately known as “Puss” Grandma and “Granny” departed this life at her residence in Bladenboro, North Carolina on Sunday, May 7, 2023. She was born to the late James “Buster” Walker and Mary Anna Walker on December 9, 1928. She was educated at Nottoway Training School in Nottoway County. She joined Springhill Baptist Church at an early age where she attended faithfully until her health failed. She drove the school bus “Nine” for over forty years for Nottoway County.
She was the “Bingo Queen” for a very long time and she won a lot. She loved traveling to Delaware, Atlantic City and Maryland to play the “One Armed Bandit”. She loved to cook. She was known for those buttered rolls, pies and cakes. There was no meal she couldn’t cook.
She was married to the late Richard E. Vaughan for many years. She lost two sons, Rutherford “Dollbaby” and Ricky Carl Vaughan. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary E. Tucker, Gerlie M. Tucker and Kate P. Dagner.
She is survived by her two loving and devoted sons, Michael (Jennifer) of Bladenboro, North Carolina and Tyrone Vaughan of Blackstone, VA. One step-daughter, Anna Pearl Hicks of Alberta, VA, Sister Ruby Love and Sister-in-law Pearl Vaughan of Blackstone, VA. Host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Theretha Wallace and Robin Birdsong. She leaves a legacy of Loving Family and Friends.
