Obituary for Polly R. Monroe
POLLY R. MONROE departed this life on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her home under the care of Hospice of Virginia. She was born on July 20, 1931 in Amelia, VA to the late Willie and Ida Griffin.
Polly joined and was baptized at Union Branch Baptist Church at an early age where she remained an honorable member. She was also a faithful attendee of Chester Grove Baptist Church until her death.
She was united in marriage to Andrew P. Monroe who preceded her in death.
Polly enjoyed life as a mother and grandmother, she will be truly missed by her entire family. As a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, giving homemade recipes, making desserts for the holidays, singing and listening to gospel music.
She was preceded in death by three brothers and six sisters, but leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, James L. Griffin of Bushkill, PA and Alvin G. Griffin of Chesterfield, VA; three daughters, Shelia N. Branch and Wanda L. Monroe of Jetersville, VA and Carolyn L. Jackson of Greenbay, VA; one devoted daughter-in-law, Diane Griffin of Bushkill, PA; one devoted son-in-law, Reverend Leon Jackson of Greenbay, VA; devoted grandchildren, James, Shealita, Jarret (Jessica), Tomeka, Robert Jr. (Nina), Orlando, Towanda, Trey, and Janae; beloved great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Evelyn Finnie of Richmond, VA; one aunt, Deloris Wingo of King and Queen County, VA; sisters-in-law, June Griffin of Richmond, VA, Lucille Monroe of Jetersville, VA, Margaret Monroe and Sue Jenkins of New York, NY, Dorothy Sheff of Amelia, VA and Frances Booker of Petersburg, VA; brothers-in-law, Reverend Wilson Monroe of Jetersville, VA and Ralph Goodman of Amelia, VA; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services Thursday, March 17, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Chester Grove Baptist Church, Amelia with interment in the church cemetery.
