Obituary for Pierre L. Harris, Jr.
Hello America! On April 11, 2015 I left my earthly family to join my heavenly family and serve my heavenly Father for eternity. I was born to Brenda Lipscomb Belfield and Pierre Harris Sr. on November 11, 1979 in Baltimore, Maryland. They took one look at me and knew my name was to be Pierre Leonardo Harris, Jr.
At an early age, my mother recognized that God had a calling upon my life and a gift for music in which she embraced it and encouraged me. At family gatherings I would often entertain everyone with my famous Michael Jackson moves (complete with my red jacket, silver socks, and glittered glove). My great aunt would walk around holding out a hat for people to drop money into for me. She knew I was going to be special!
I accepted Christ into my life at an early age and joined Union Baptist Church in Crewe, VA where I sang on the youth choir.
I attended and graduated from Nottoway High School in 1997 where I was a member of the football team, NJROTC, and the Nottoway Marching Band. This is where my love and interest grew for music. One of my proudest moments in high school was when me and my friends formed the musical group UCLAP (Ulrick, Calvin, LaTrell, Avery, and of course me – Pierre). We won the senior talent show! When I say U, you say CLAP: U CLAP, U CLAP!
After graduating from high school I decided to spread my wings and left home to attend Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, FL. Although I enjoyed my time there I just couldn’t shake my love for the art of music. After one year at Bethune-Cookman, I followed my heart and transferred to Full Sails University where I obtained my Associates Degree in Recording Arts in May 2003. While there I also had the opportunity to be an intern on BET's 106 & Park.
Shortly after graduating from Full Sails I returned to Virginia and began working in various fields while I worked on honing my artistry. I was a risk taker so I tried all kinds of things. I even ran my own clothing store and recording studio at one point. But again my love of music was always at the forefront. I was a proud founding member and CEO of the recording label Doo Doo Records and the musical group VilleMade. Together we made lots of great music but more importantly we made even greater memories. One of those memories was recording music with one of my musical idols, Snoop Dogg. During this time I also got my start in becoming the infamous Super DJay Pleo.
My greatest accomplishment in life though was having the opportunity to be a dad. This both humbled me and gave me great joy.
T-Mobile Corporation was my "day" job where I enjoyed entertaining my co-workers and assisting customers but the best part was that it gave me the flexibility to do what I really loved – spinning on the ones and twos. It gave me great joy to watch people enjoy themselves while dancing to the sounds I created. It didn’t matter if it was a wedding reception, a party, a family reunion, or a business function – my mission remained the same – to entertain and put smiles on their faces.
I have joined those who preceded me in death – my PaPa Lee Rather, my Granddaddy Clayton and Granny Lucy Ward, my Grandmother Peggy Harris, and my PaPa Richard Carmichael.
On this side I leave behind my angels, Janiyah, Damari, DaKiya, Jahmari, and Devin; my loving and devoted mother and stepfather, Brenda and Roy Belfield; my father and stepmother, Pierre Sr. and Darlene Harris; my best friend and my big little sister, Diandra who always thought she was my momma; my sisters Danna, Tiara, Sharae, and Tasha; my brothers Darrell, Darnell, Roy Jr, and Marcus; my grandma Ella Keeton (Roger); my Nana Dorothy Carmichael; my second mom and dad Aunt Carol and Uncle Bug (Henry) Booker; 8 beautiful nieces; 3 handsome nephews; my aunts Shirley, Dolores, Janice, LaTonya, Jovita, Venice, Glynis, and Joycelynn;  my uncles Larry, Wayne, Frankie, Johnny, Darrell, and Dwayne; a host of great aunts and uncles (so many I can't even name but you guys know how I feel about you especially Aunt Bootney and Uncle Kermit!); my cousin who was more like a brother, Cedric, my ride or die Daron, my little cousins who were more like my sisters, Jasmine and Crystal; my two little teenage mutant ninja turtles, CJ & Bryce, and a whole lot of other cousins, friends and kinfolk that I loved and cherished.
I am Pierre Leonardo Harris Jr. I am PJ. I am Petey. I am Rabbit. I am Super DJay PLeo. I am a child of God. I AM LEGENDARY.
