Obituary for Phyllis J. Ware

Phyllis Yvonne James Jennings Ware (75) of Crewe, Virginia passed away peacefully on May 1, 2024.

Born on July 22, 1948 in Washington DC, Phyllis was the only child of Octavia (Jeter) and Curtis James. Phyllis accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in Washington DC. She was baptized by Rev. Chasten Murry. After baptism, she attended Sunday School where she gained friends and built a strong foundation on Christ. When she returned to Crewe, Phyllis joined Nottoway Baptist Church, Crewe Virginia.

Upon graduating from Luther H. Foster High School, Phyllis was ready to take the world by storm. Her career was an eclectic collection of professional positions that sharpened her skills, demonstrated her hard work ethic and showcased her ability to bring laughter and joy to her co-workers, colleagues and clientele. She would return to Crewe to care for her aging mother – Octavia (Jeter) James; aunts – Marjorie (Jeter) Streat and Catherine (Jeter) Miller and assisted with the care of her uncle Robert Jeter – all of whom proceeded her in death.

Two things Phyllis loved: going barefoot and watching the Washington Redskins (Commanders). Phyllis loved watching television. She could be found most days enjoying Law-n-Order, old Westerns and sipping on a large cup of ice water. She was quick-witted, joyful and always had a kind word for all.

Phyllis leaves to cherish their memory two children: Philando Jennings (Chance Manley), Octavia King; grandchildren: Bryce Jennings, Tenaja Jennings and their mother Christine Jennings and Emerson King; cousins: Venita Atkins, Rodney Miller, Marilyn Jeter and Carlton Jeter. And many friends.

Special thanks from the family
