Obituary for Percy D. Fowlkes, Jr.
Percy D. Fowlkes, Jr. was born September 19, 1950 to Marion and Percy D. Fowlkes, Sr. in Crewe, VA and he went on to glory at 10:15 p.m. on April 30, 2009. He attended Luther H. Foster and left to go into the working world. He moved to Baltimore, MD where he worked at Bethlehem Steel for eight years. He then joined the Navy where he received his GED.
Percy started a family with his first wife, Shirley Thomas, and from this blessed union he had two sons, Percy D. Fowlkes, III and Dentis Fowlkes and a daughter, Denine Fowlkes, whom he often referred to as his niney-pooh. Life changes and through them this union came to an end.
He started fresh while remaining in Baltimore, MD where he met the love of his life, his second wife Mary. They were married for twenty-seven years, this union was blessed with a daughter, Nicole Fowles and a son, Robert Fowlkes. In 1998 he came back home to Crewe, VA where he spent his last years.
Percy was a great person, the best friend, and the best father. He was a very vibrant and outgoing person, most of all he loved to laugh. He was greatly known for the old stories he would tell of his younger days. He lived to be an old and wise man because in his last days he gave his life to Christ. He was a cool, laid back, easy going guy and he will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind, his wife Mary Fowlkes; mother Marion Jeffers; five brothers, Jerry (Ann), Forrest (Rose), Cornell (Darlene), Kenneth and Rodney (Liz) Fowlkes; two sisters, Brenda Johnson (Franklin) and Cindy Wiley-Parotti (Craig); three sons, Percy III (Carolyn), Dentis (Jessica) and Robert Fowlkes; two daughters, Denine and Nicole Fowlkes; seven grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.
